Interview with Marcel Miliček, project delivery manager
3 mins readHe has been working at Creative Handles almost from the very beginning, and his role has gradually grown into a project manager. Marcel Miliček now works as a mediator between our clients and developers to ensure perfect results of our projects. How does he enjoy working with a remote team, and what he considers crucial for developing fantastic webs and applications?
You have been working at Creative Handles almost from the very beginning. How did your cooperation with the company develop?
Yes, it's unbelievable how fast time flies. First, I worked with the CEO himself, Ondřej, as a freelancer focused on full-stack development of his projects or projects for his clients. But eventually, I started to work for his company. My role was slowly changing and evolving over the years. I also felt that I was more front-end-oriented, so my position moved to this area.
However, in recent years my role has taken a completely different direction. Programming was replaced by project planning, process management, communication, and client specifications until the final delivery and building of corporate relationships. So my last role now is Project Delivery Manager. :)
What do you enjoy most about working at Creative Handles?
Without a doubt, it's diversity within our projects and their focus, and our corporate culture. We work flexibly, currently in five time zones, on various projects. However, this isn't surprising. From the very beginning, our vision was to cooperate on projects that we liked. And so we don't oppose web presentations for local entrepreneurs, intelligent applications for start-ups, or mobile applications for foreign companies.
How do you manage to coordinate a team that works from several countries and time zones?
As I mentioned, we are currently working in more time zones, and what's more, our team is constantly growing. So I don't think it's just about one person. It's essential to have a team with people who share similar values, both corporate or personal.
As a company, we provide flexible working hours, but the whole development process is a living organism, where a specific "life cycle" must be observed. It means that all employees must follow some rules, especially regarding processes, and participate in fixed online team meetings.
What do you think is key to successful project management?
I'm a hundred percent sure it is communication. As a remote company, we don't have the opportunity to sit together in the office and simply check whether my colleague has solved the problem from yesterday. So we have to be reachable and available during our working hours.
It's all about proactivity. If I don't understand something or need some explanation of the assigned task, I can try calling a colleague through WhatsApp or organizing a quick online call with screen sharing.
The vision of Creative Handles is "We build a world-class technology company, which positively influences billions of people." How does it correlate with your personal vision?
For me, each word in this sentence has its meaning; together, they form units that indicate sub-goals our company has. I believe that each of us interprets the individual parts in their own way; for me, it is something like: Building a society full of professionals from their fields, with a friendly atmosphere, and with results that speak for themselves. And that's something that fully matches my vision.
Because nowadays it's possible - I am not saying simple - but possible, to deliver results that are "visible" (with a bit of money and a good marketing team.) However, maintaining attention, being exceptional, or collaborating on projects that resonate with people is more challenging but also the right way to do it. At least, this is how I feel it.
